GENE SHANNON

August 8, 1950 -  April 22, 2006

It is with great sadness to report the passing of Gene Shannon, a great and selfless supporter of VHHS sports, the husband of Nancy, and father of three, Thomas, Tyler and Madeline. 

Gene was a lifelong resident of the Sunland-Tujunga community who loved this community with a passion.  He graduated from VHHS in 1968.  He probably coached many of your kids in little league and in football over the years.  Much of the Sunland-Tujunga Little League facilities were built through his efforts.  Every Friday night football game since 1999 had Gene helping to set up the snack bar and running the grill before he went into the stands to watch Thomas and Tyler play.

Gene died while racing in the Ensenada Bike Race on Saturday, April 22.  He was a great friend and will be sorely missed.

The memorial for Gene was on Friday, May 5, at 3pm at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, 10321 Tujunga Canyon Boulevard in Tujunga at the corner of Apperson and Tujunga Canyon Blvd., with a reception following at their hall.  Baseball games were rescheduled to allow all players to attend.  The chapel was overflowing with friends and family.  This is a true testament to the Shannon family.  Ultimately, we live in a small town--a small and very supportive town.

Now, as Gene would want it, the season continues...
