LOS ANGELES CITY SECTION BASEBALL CHAMPIONSHIP INVITATIONAL
May 23, 2007
Venice 12, Verdugo Hills 11
Submitted by Tyler Brown--
The Verdugo Hills Dons fell to the Venice Gondoliers 12-11 Wednesday to be eliminated from post-season play.

The Gondoliers built up a 6-2 lead over three innings only to have the Don's storm back with eight runs in the third inning.  A 3-run homer by catcher Paul Lindeman, and a 2-run single by Bryson Surratt were the big blows in the rally.

The Don's took an 11-8 lead into the 7th inning, only to see Venice strike for 4 runs to take a 12-11 lead, which was enough for the win.

The game featured big performances by Lindeman (3/5,HR,5 RBI), Surratt (3/5,3 RBI), Nash Hutter (3/5,2B,2 RBI), Russell Stark (2/5,2B), and Stephen Miller (2/3).

It was a disappointing finish to a dramatic season, which saw the Dons finish with an impressive 16-9 record (12-3 in League).

The Verdugo Hills Dons defeated the Poly Parrots 7-4 Monday in league play
to take first place in the Sunset Six League of the Los Angeles City Section. Russell Stark homered in the win, with Stephen Hansen (6-0, ERA 1.63) collecting the win. Nash Hutter closed out the game for his second save.

Hutter doubled and tripled, extending his league leading average to .541, 9th overall in the Los Angeles City Section.

The Dons (17-4, 11-2) knocked off the Parrots, ranked 25th in the City in the Daily News poll.  The Dons and Parrots have identical 11-2 records in the Sunset Six League, but Verdugo Hills has defeated Poly twice in three appearances to claim first place.

From LA Daily News, 5/10/07--"Verdugo Hills of Tujunga senior Nash Hutter's 2-for-3 performance Monday against Poly of Sun Valley gave him 12 hits in six games, raising his average to a league-high .541.

The performance also put the Dons back in a first-place tie with Poly. Verdugo Hills, which finishes its regular season Tuesday against North Hollywood, would get the nod as the league's top seed for playoffs based on taking two of three games from the Parrots this season."
